California Air Resources Board (CARB) is cracking down on emissions from heavy-duty vehicles to improve air quality and fight climate change.
New rules affect trucks, buses, and transport refrigeration units (TRUs) of various sizes, with the goal of transitioning to zero-emission vehicles over time.
Two Key Regulations to Know:
Clean Truck Check: Similar to Smog Check, this requires reporting, testing, and fees to ensure emissions equipment is functional on heavy-duty vehicles.
Advanced Clean Fleets: Targets large fleets, requiring them to gradually replace older vehicles with zero-emission alternatives.
Important Deadlines
Oct-Dec 2023: Anticipated reporting period for Clean Truck Check, plus a $30 annual compliance fee per vehicle.
July 2024 (estimated): Clean Truck Check periodic testing likely begins.
2024 onwards : Advanced Clean Fleets deadlines start, impacting drayage trucks and large fleets based on vehicle type.
